With the busiest and craziest US holiday upon us next week, tangueros everywhere are getting in their tango fix now to stave off the maddness of holiday travel and family interactions. What has tango to do with my ability to cope with Uncle Bob’s umpteenth rant about the superiority of stuffing with oysters AND raisins, you ask???
Well…tango dancing is a constant embrace, a continual hug, an enduring “warm fuzzy” if you will. And according to science and the internets, hugs are a super source of endorphins:
“Endorphins are hormones that produce a feeling of euphoria, much like an opiate. The body releases endorphins to neutralize and calm the brain. Endorphins are a sort of anesthesia. So for sufferers of depression and anxiety? This makes endorphins your new best friend. “
So the more tango dancing one enjoys, the more endorphins one enjoys. The more endorphins, the more euphoria. The more euphoria, the less likely you are to show Uncle Bob just what he can do with said stuffing… So come enjoy some tango before you depart for the holidays. Your family will be grateful.
Join us and enjoy the euphoria of Tango Tuesday at our new home: Mandala Bistro 25 Temple St. New Haven (Across from the Criterion Movie theater – a block down from where we used to be). NO COVER!!! Come have dinner and dance with us! The milonga starts at 8pm. This place is beautiful! Click here to get directions or here to check out their menus.
