Ahhhh SHOES!!!……….”Gesundheit”

The words “adorno“, “adornment” and “embellishment” are basic terms of the tango lexicon, often referring to clever little gestures of the leg or foot, initiated by the follower to bring a little of their own sumin sumin to the dance.   For most, embellishments are not for the beginner or the faint of heart as they can sometimes result in unintential spikes or stabs to someone’s leg or hemline.  But fret not, the easiest adornment of all… is the tango shoe.

Want people to say ooh la la while you dance?  (OK, well maybe not ooh la la, but you get the idea).  The quickest and easiest way can be achieved in two easy steps.

Step 1:  Give your shoe a little flavor -   No, this does not require plunking down $200 for the latest “tango shoe” from Buenos Aires.  Take whatever shoe you have for dancing, be it a pump or a sneaker, and add a little color or decor. This can be accomplished by clipping on a fake flower, changing out your laces for some colorful ribbon, or taking that beat-up old pair of heels, breaking out the Beadazzler and going to town.

Step 2:  Don’t fret over the fancy adornos and just focus on making sure your feet collect, collect, COLLECT!  -  Dancing beautifully and wearing beautiful shoes well begins with good solid technique. Not sure what it means to “collect”?  Ask you lovely friends at the New Haven Tango Club. We are a friendly bunch that loves to do anything we can to make sure your tango experience is a fabulous one!
